One where I have all sorts of ideas and new projects I want to work on and old projects that I&#8217;ve been thinking about for months but haven&#8217;t had time to work on.\u00a0 Yet, when I sit in the studio, I can&#8217;t see where to start, or I just find myself just fiddling with and rearranging the supplies around me.\u00a0 I think this is caused by the sudden expanse of time I find on my hands after the holidays.\u00a0 The last few months of the year are always jammed with work and a constant push to create enough product for my December shows.\u00a0 Once those are over and I have time to create some personal art, my creativity stalls.<\/p>\n<p>In an effort to get over this hump, I&#8217;m attempting to throw myself back into journaling.\u00a0 I&#8217;m participating in the <a onclick=\"javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview('\/outgoing\/artjournalcaravan.com\/expedition\/');\"  href=\"http:\/\/artjournalcaravan.com\/expedition\/\" target=\"_blank\">Art Journal Caravan<\/a> again this year.\u00a0 I got a lot of great inspiration out of this workshop last year (although, I wish I&#8217;d spent more time with it) and decided to join in again for the final year of the expedition.\u00a0 So far, I&#8217;m having some trouble with the prompts.\u00a0 Normally, they would be perfectly great journaling prompts and are right up my alley inspiration wise, but, well&#8230; see above again about the creative block.\u00a0 So, while browsing around online, looking at pretty journal pictures on Pinterest, I came across Roben-Marie Smith&#8217;s <a onclick=\"javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview('\/outgoing\/www.robenmarie.com\/');\"  href=\"http:\/\/www.robenmarie.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">blog<\/a>\u00a0and the <a onclick=\"javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview('\/outgoing\/www.arttothe5th.com\/the-documented-life-project-details\/');\"  href=\"http:\/\/www.arttothe5th.com\/the-documented-life-project-details\/\" target=\"_blank\">Documented Life Project<\/a>\u00a0again.\u00a0 I remember checking this out once before but not having time to get into it.\u00a0 This time, however, the idea really seamed to resonate with me.<\/p>\n<p>If you got though all that, here come the pretty pictures. \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a onclick=\"javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview('\/outgoing\/www.catzquiltz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/DSC_2133-2_resize.jpg');\"  href=\"http:\/\/www.catzquiltz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/DSC_2133-2_resize.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-357\" alt=\"2014 Documented Life Journal by Jessibel Designs - Jessica Dickerson\" src=\"http:\/\/www.catzquiltz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/DSC_2133-2_resize.jpg\" width=\"573\" height=\"600\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.catzquiltz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/DSC_2133-2_resize.jpg 573w, http:\/\/www.catzquiltz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/DSC_2133-2_resize-286x300.jpg 286w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 573px) 100vw, 573px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve thrown myself into this project.\u00a0 I even took the mini workshop <a onclick=\"javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview('\/outgoing\/lorraine-bell.squarespace.com\/planjournalplay\/');\"  href=\"https:\/\/lorraine-bell.squarespace.com\/planjournalplay\/\" target=\"_blank\">Plan.Journal.Play<\/a> which is a great walk through for altering a planner or a great kick in the pants if you just need to get started. Ahem&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Instead of one of the Moleskine planners, I started with a composition notebook.\u00a0\u00a0 And, I couldn&#8217;t leave well enough alone, so I ended up taking the whole thing apart and rebinding it.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a onclick=\"javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview('\/outgoing\/www.catzquiltz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/DSC_2135-1.jpg');\"  href=\"http:\/\/www.catzquiltz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/DSC_2135-1.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter  wp-image-339\" alt=\"Tabs - 2014 Documented Life Journal by Jessibel Designs - Jessica Dickerson\" src=\"http:\/\/www.catzquiltz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/DSC_2135-1.jpg\" width=\"800\" height=\"530\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.catzquiltz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/DSC_2135-1.jpg 800w, http:\/\/www.catzquiltz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/DSC_2135-1-300x198.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">Here&#8217;s a quick break down of my process:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">I started with this:<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><a onclick=\"javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview('\/outgoing\/www.catzquiltz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/DSC_2151-1.jpg');\"  href=\"http:\/\/www.catzquiltz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/DSC_2151-1.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft  wp-image-341\" alt=\"composition books\" src=\"http:\/\/www.catzquiltz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/DSC_2151-1-300x198.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"198\" srcset=\"http:\/\/www.catzquiltz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/DSC_2151-1-300x198.jpg 300w, http:\/\/www.catzquiltz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/DSC_2151-1.jpg 800w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>and gessoed the cover.\u00a0 Oops, the <em>Plastic<\/em> cover.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">I should have tried to sand it first but I was too eager (read: impatient) to get started.\u00a0 So, I broke out the watercolor paper and cut out a slightly oversized cover piece.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">I based coated the watercolor paper with gesso to give it some texture and change how it would take the paint.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">I pretty much followed along with the workshop instructions.\u00a0 That was a big departure for me because I usually just use the workshop for inspiration and then go my own way.\u00a0 This time, I really enjoyed not having to think about what to do next and just create.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a onclick=\"javascript:pageTracker._trackPageview('\/outgoing\/www.catzquiltz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/DSC_2148.jpg');\"  href=\"http:\/\/www.catzquiltz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/DSC_2148.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter\" alt=\"full cover - 2014 Documented Life Journal by Jessibel Designs - Jessica Dickerson\" src=\"http:\/\/www.catzquiltz.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/01\/DSC_2148.jpg\" width=\"800\" height=\"530\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\">When the cover was done, I layered it with the original plastic cover (for more structure) and another piece of watercolor paper for the inside and stitch them all together.\u00a0 I have a short list of things to do differently next time and here is my #1:\u00a0 Do all the stitching before sealing the layers with gel medium!\u00a0 I actually planned to do a lot more stitching on the cover but after about the hundredth thread break, I just wanted it to be over!
